The NYPD said a female teen and a female pre-teen were injured in a motor-vehicle collision involving an FDNY vehicle in the Woodlawn Heights section of The Bronx on Mother’s Day.

 

Police said the incident was reported on Sunday, May 14, at 3.49 p.m. and that officers from the 47th Precinct responded to the incident location in the vicinity of East 233rd Street and Webster Avenue.

“Upon arrival, it was reported to police that a 2008 GMC vehicle, operated by a 41-year-old female, was traveling eastbound on East 233 Street when [an] FDNY ambulance collided with the rear of the vehicle,” an NYPD spokesperson said.

 

The spokesperson said a 17-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl, occupants of the GMC vehicle, were transported to Montefiore Hospital in stable condition.

As reported, the FDNY had responded to a three-alarm, house fire at 4519 Seton Avenue in the nearby Wakefield section of The Bronx the same day, at 1.46 p.m. and had also responded to two other north Bronx fires which also broke out the same day, responding to one in Olinville at 2.34 p.m. and another in Bedford Park at 1.25 p.m.

 

When contacted for comment, the FDNY said Ladder 41 was involved in the crash, adding, “The accident remains under investigation.” Ladder 41 is based at White Plains Road in the Little Yemen section of The Bronx.

Norwood News asked the NYPD for clarification as to whether it was actually an FDNY ambulance or Ladder 41 which was involved in the crash therefore and will update this story upon receipt of a response.

 

Norwood News witnessed the aftermath of the accident and at that stage, the GMC Acadia, which had Connecticut plates, was in front of Ladder 41, while it appeared that a third vehicle, a grey Toyota minivan, may have also been involved in the crash, as it was located in front of the GMC Arcadia after the incident. However, we have been unable to confirm this latter point with officials as of publication date.

It is unknown if Ladder 41 was possibly returning from the Wakefield fire at the time of the collision or not. We reached out to FDNY for comment and will update this story should we receive a response.
