Broken Bow Track Preview

The Broken Bow boys and girls track and field teams are scheduled to begin competition this week.  Ryan Wetovick returns as head coach of the Broken Bow track teams this season and took time to visit with Central Nebraska’s Sports Source about the track season.  The weather has not been very cooperative when it comes to being able to practice outdoors.  Coach Wetovick said that the first days of practice were spent with snow shovels trying to clear off the track.  Wetovick shared some of the things that the athletes have been able to do, in spite of the weather conditions, to get ready for the season.

Wetovick also talked about making that transition in conditioning from winter sports to track and field.

According to Wetovick, 61 athletes are out for track this season.  When asked about areas of strength for the team this year, Wetovick mentioned the throwing events where Max Denson is a returning state medalist in the Class B shot put to lead the boys side while Janae Marten, Taylor Schaaf, Macy Doggett, and Keelyn Shea will all return with varsity experience on the girls side.  The boys pole vault is also expected to be a strong area for the team with Coy Wardyn and Jack Myers returning.  On the track, Wetovick mentioned Zane Eggleston, a returning state qualifier, in the boys hurdles and Tyson Neely in the boys sprints.  On the girls side, Wetovick believes Broken Bow will be strong in the distance races led by MaKinley Tobey and is excited to see what can happen with their relays as he hopes some of the success that incoming freshmen enjoyed at the junior high level can translate to the high school level.

Broken Bow is scheduled to begin its season this Friday at the Aurora Invitational.  Wetovick believes the team is as ready as they can be for their first meet of the year.
