Sanitation Workers Help Rescue Woman In Broken Arrow

A 78-year-old woman from Broken Arrow is thankful for three city trash truck workers who helped rescue her.

She uses oxygen because of a heart issue and said she was rushing to get her trash outside for pickup, when she started having trouble breathing.

The guys collect trash from hundreds of houses a day, sometimes more than 1,000.

They were actually half an hour ahead of schedule when they shifted gears to help Ms. Donna Darling.

"God just puts angels where you need them," said Donna.

Donna can't lift the top of the bin, and she doesn't want to leave a bag out the night before and let critters make a mess.

So on trash day, she brings out the bag the morning of. But one morning recently, she woke up and it was already 8 a.m.

"I took off my oxygen, and hurried, opened the garage door, and pushed it out and I just collapsed," said Donna. "He sees me all crumpled up there and so he goes, 'are you okay' and I said, 'no not really' and so he reached out and said 'how can I help you?'"

"Instead of getting the trash, I held her and I slowly guided her back into her house with her hands," said Gavin Drill.

"He stayed right there with me and made sure," said Donna.

DaMichael pulled off to the side and put the truck in park, and Joshua made sure to pick up the trash.

"It was just that teamwork and knowing our surroundings. So it all just worked out perfectly," said DaMichael Roseborough, crew leader.

"It was pretty heartwarming to see," said Joshua Medrano.

Donna said they deserve all the hugs and pats on the back, so she called the city to brag on them.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you. I cannot thank you enough," Donna expressed. "I'm so proud of him. Does he realize the really good person that he is?"

Gavin just wants to be the best version of himself.

"Always go above and beyond and go the extra mile and that extra mile was helping out that lady that day," said Gavin.
