2 children struck by vehicle in Brockton; 1 flown to hospital, police say
Two children were struck by a vehicle next to a Brockton, Massachusetts, school on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened in the area of 1150 Warren Ave., which is near the Huntington Alternative School, around 5 p.m.
According to police, the victims, two 11-year-olds, were transported to a nearby hospital with what police said were serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said one of the victims was later flown to Boston Children's hospital while the other person was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene, according to police.
People who live in the neighborhood heard the sound of a bang and saw the two young boys in the street, not moving.
"I turned the corner to see there were two kids lying on the ground a few feet from the car and they weren’t moving," Adriana Medina said. "It was really scary."
Neighbors say despite the school zone, crashes happen in the area far too often.
They say the numerous signs in the area don't work, and the flashing yellow light over the intersection is obscured by a tree.
"It’s a very bad intersection, I wish they’d do something," Adela DePina, a neighbor, said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
