BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio
Found gun: Royalton Road
On April 29, police were dispatched to Aldi after an employee found a gun left in the Royalton Road store’s restroom.
An arriving officer was given the loaded Glock, which didn’t come back as stolen.
A short time later, a woman came to the police station to collect the weapon, which she normally keeps tucked in her waistband. She had removed it in order to use the bathroom.
The gun was returned, along with instructions from the officer on safe firearm handling practices.
Hit-skip: Broadview Road
On April 30, police were dispatched to a car crash on Broadview Road. An arriving officer located a victim injured in the crash.
The at-fault party had left the scene, driving a 2010 black Kia Forte. The make and model was determined due to debris scattered across the roadway.
The Brecksville Police Department then called to say they had found the Kia, with heavy front-end damage, at a West Snowville Road business.
The Broadview Heights officer talked to the Kia’s driver, who smelled like alcohol and said he had blacked out. He had no memory of driving to the parking lot.
Despite the odor, the driver passed a field sobriety test. The man was cited for hit-skip and not obeying traffic control devices.
