Bridgeport Council Member Jorge Cruz is calling for the demolition of an old South End factory building due to safety concerns.
Cruz says the old Warnaco Clothing Factory on Myrtle Avenue has already suffered a partial roof collapse. Despite this, he says there has been talk about preserving the building by giving it a “protective historical designation."
“I'm tired of being insulted and disrespected as a councilman when we have these people from the outside coming in and trying to hold up the progress that I have been doing,” he said.
Mayor Joe Ganim said on Sunday that “the building is an eyesore and we're taking steps to demolish it, with a plan going before the City Council this week."
