One Person Airlifted After Vehicle Crash on Byron Highway

At 8:44 pm Wednesday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a three vehicle crash at Byron Highway near Orwood in unincorporated Brentwood.  The crash was blocking the roadway.

It was reported that possibly two people were trapped in a vehicle, however, when Contra Costa County Sheriff deputies arrived on scene it was reported all occupants out with one person sustaining a head injury and another unconscious but had a pulse.

A short-time later, Engine 99 firefighters arrived on scene reporting two patients with major injuries and requested two medical helicopters and three AMR units to the scene. The landing zone was Old River Elementary School.

By 9:07 pm, one person was transported via medical helicopter to an area hospital. Meanwhile, medics on scene opted to ground transport the second patient.

Two other patients were deemed to have minor injuries and released at scene.
