Photos/Mike Williams By Mike Williams news@breckenridgeamerican.com The Breckenridge American announces Junior Duran and Charlie Salazar as this week’s athletes of the week. This week’s athletes are recognized for performances April 15-20. Junior Duran Duran is a four-year player on the Buckaroos baseball team, playing this year in center field. In the Bucks’ win at Early, Duran recorded two hits including a triple. He had five putouts in center field during their win against Peaster. “Junior is as steady as they come, he has been a varsity player since he was a freshmen and has been very consistent on offense,” Buckaroos coach Jeremy West said. “He has also turned himself into a really good defensive outfielder.” Charlie Salazar Salazar is one of six seniors on this year’s Lady Bucks softball team and plays second base. She provides an example in work ethic for her younger teammates and can provide an offensive spark when needed. She combined for four hits, three runs and one RBI in wins last week over Early and Peaster. Defensively she contributed with two putouts and two assists. “Charlie brings several valuable qualities to the team. She has set a high standard for work ethic and positivity, inspiring her teammates to follow suit, Lady Bucks coach Cynthia Herrera said. “She doesn’t seek attention or credit.
