This week’s athletes are recognized for performances April 11 at the area track meet. Chance Stewart Simply put, Chance Stewart did a lot of running on April 11. He competed and represented the Buckaroos in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs at the area track meet. He advanced to this weekend’s regional meet with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run. Stewart has experienced a lot of success this school year, including a trip to the state cross country championships. “Chance is a hard working kid. He is always here and ready to work and brings a different mind set to racing,” BHS boys’ track coach Mark Young said. “He is a competitor and has a bright future in track and cross country. He is a great example for his teammates and younger kiddos.” Haylie Mendoza Multiple female athletes earned this designation this week and making a decision was not easy. Haylie Mendoza is one of three athletes to compete on both the girls’ 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays. Both of these teams advanced to this weekend’s regional meet in Abilene by finishing in the top four last week at the area meet. “Hailey has been in varsity track for all 4 years,” Breckenridge High School girls’ track coach Donny Funderburg said. “She is the kid I count on to be a leader by example. She has never let me or the lady bucks down. She is a winner and will be sorely missed after graduation.” Sports Log in to post comments
