UPDATE: Standoff resolved on Forest Glen Drive in Bozeman

UPDATE, 11:44 am — The standoff on Forest Glen Drive has been peacefully resolved, according to a post on social media from the Bozeman Police Department.

"The incident on Forest Glen has been peacefully resolved, with one adult male taken into custody. Residents are free to return, although there will be vehicles and personnel in the area for a few hours. As always, our goal is to peacefully resolve these incidents, a priority that often takes an extended period of time. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We’re also grateful to the many first responder agencies that assisted us."

UPDATE, 9:35 AM — The Bozeman Police Department said on social media the standoff on Forest Glen Drive continues as of 9:25 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023.

The police department said several types of vehicles and equipment, including drones, are in use.

Gunnar Richey, a neighbor in the area, told MTN News he heard police on the loudspeaker for several hours, along with flashbangs.

"I thought it was fireworks; they've been here since like two in the morning," Richey said.

BOZEMAN — Law enforcement officials are asking the public to stay away from an on-going standoff that began early Saturday morning after a man reportedly threatened neighbors with an ax.

According to a media release, on April 1, 2023, at 12:56 am officers from the Bozeman Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Forest Glen Drive for the report of an unknown man damaging vehicles and threatening neighbors with an ax.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect retreated inside his residence and refused to exit. Officers made continuous efforts to communicate with the male from outside the residence although he refused to cooperate. Due to the violent nature of the incident, several nearby residences were evacuated and the joint City/County Special Response Team responded to the scene. Crisis negotiators are also on the scene and actively attempting to communicate with the male.

The public is requested to avoid the area until the incident has been resolved. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Bozeman Fire Department and American Medical Response are also assisting with this investigation.
