Summer in Longville: Longville has new Info Center
Longville residents and visitors are sure to notice a new addition to the downtown area: an attractive new building on Main Street just west of the Post Office. This is the Longville Area Chamber of Commerce’s new Information Center, which also houses public rest rooms. The Information Center will be open seven days a week through Labor Day. Hours will vary, based on volunteer availability, but typically will be Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with shorter hours on Sunday.
Invasive species found in Grand Rapids lake
GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (Northern News Now) - An invasive species was found in a popular Grand Rapids area lake. The Minnesota DNR confirmed they found starry stonewort on the southwest end of Pokegama Lake. It’s a bushy, bright green algae that has a white star-shaped bulb at the end.

Area student receives NDSU scholarship
Adrianna Hansen, daughter of Jeri and Scott Peterson, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, received the Academic Transfer Award at North Dakota State University. The award recognizes High Academic Achieving Transfer Student without an associate degree. Hansen will enter NDSU in the fall and major in business administration.

GRACF donors continue to offer support to area students through scholarships
In 2024, the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation (GRACF) administered education funding to Greater Itasca area students through over 90 scholarships funded by area donors. The Minnesota Incident Command System (MNICS) hosted the annual Minnesota Wildfire Academy in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, this week.
