Sophie Weber spent the first four years of her career at Bowling Green, including playing every game of the 2023 season and starting 49 games at third base.

In 121 games as a Falcon, Weber batted .274 with 31 extra base hits, including seven home runs. She notched 48 RBIs, scored 27 runs, and worked 42 walks. In 2022, Weber was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.

Following her entrance into the transfer portal, we caught up with Weber for a Portal Spotlight Q&A.

*****

On her proudest accomplishment on the field…

Sophie Weber: In my four years at BGSU, as a senior, I led my team in almost every single offensive category with 46 hits, 18 extra base-hits, 13 doubles, a .329 BA and 4 home runs. But the award I am most proud of is my 2022 All-MAC tournament team award after defeating Ohio in a must win game 5-3. In the game vs. Ohio, I had 5 Rbis, including a game typing home-run in the bottom of the seventh. In 2023, I batted .667 against ranked teams, Florida and Auburn.

On her main priorities in a new home…

Sophie Weber: I’m searching for a program with a winning mentality and competitive drive.

On the ideal qualities in a new coach and program…

Sophie Weber: I’m searching for a program that has grit and strong family values. In a coach, I’m looking for a mentor who can continue to grow my knowledge and love for the game of softball.

On what level at which she wants to spend her final year…

Sophie Weber: I have made the personal decision to really challenge myself for my final year. No school is out of the question. I have been in every role in my four years at BGSU, from my role as a freshman and sophomore as a pinch hitter in high stress situations to team captain and playing every game my senior year. I know my worth and I’m willing to fight for any program at any level. Of course, playing on the biggest of big stages would be amazing but a high mid-major would be a dream come true.

On navigating the portal…

Sophie Weber: I have been in the portal for a while now, and from what I have experienced the hardest part is connecting with coaches and making sure that all my emails and texting are reaching them. It’s difficult to show my love for the game by sending game film, but I have no doubt that I will end up at the program and home that I was meant to finish out my softball career at. With that being said, the easiest part of the portal is the overwhelming excitement that I get to join a new family and leave my mark at a new university. I am so excited and hopeful for the opportunity to speak with these amazing college coaches. I have already learned so much from the coaches that I have spoken to and I can’t wait to continue this process.
