LGBTQ+ Truck Driver Network celebrates 1 year in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In honor of Pride Month, a group of truck drivers decided to form a community.

“I’ve just seen a need within the trucking industry. There was a lot of people that, after I started trucking again, that I felt didn’t have a place. I didn’t have a safe place for everyone to connect and get together and or any sort of representation for the community within trucking,” Bobby Loy, founder of the LGBTQ+ Truck Driver Network says.

He founded the organization in Florida, but moved to Bowling Green to be closer to his family.

“We were looking for somewhere to call home and Bowling Green was that place… We just really enjoyed the spirit of the community of Bowling Green. It just felt so great to be there. So we visited a couple of times and just decided Bowling Green was the place to be,” Loy says.

The LGBTQ+ Truck Driver Network offers plenty of meetups and services, including a visual project showcasing all the different flags of the community. Bobby is honored to be a driving force in this network.

“I’ve had people ask me like, ‘Why do you have to have a network?’ or ‘Why do you have to create a community?’ And it’s like the community is already there, I’m not creating anything… all I’m doing is giving back, giving everyone a space and an area to chat with each other, to have a community network and be able to rely on each other and talk to each other about things.”
