Bowling Green Police Department celebrates 200 years of service

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department is celebrating 200 years of service this weekend.

The city held a proclamation this afternoon celebrating the massive accomplishment for BGPD.

The Police Department has been active since the 1790s, but didn’t officially hire part-time officers until 1893.

Representative Kevin Jackson, Mayor Todd Alcott and some of the City Commission spoke alongside members of the Police Department.

Chief Michael Delaney is honored that the community came out to celebrate this historic milestone for the department.

“I think it’s just great that the community comes out to celebrate their police department. We work for them. They don’t work for us. So having that support of our community goes a long way. Just knowing that we’ve provided a service that they trust us to do the right thing,” Delaney says.

Delaney also says he’s excited for the next 200 years of serving the Bowling Green community and Warren County.
