Throwback Thursday: Summer Garden Tours

With Memorial Day behind us, many say summertime is officially here. Flowers are
in full bloom and trees are all green. Bowling Green is home to some absolutely
beautiful gardens. We revisit a couple stories we told last year, and introduce a new
immersive storytelling experience in this summertime gardens of Bowling Green
Throwback Thursday.

Last year, we shared the story of Ruth Rabold, the green thumb of Bowling Green,
whose landscape and garden efforts can still be seen all over the city. She led
Fountain Square Park’s first true landscaping efforts, and now the beauty of
Fountain Square is the crown jewel of downtown Bowling Green.

An all-new immersive history garden tour is being offered in downtown, thanks to
the Landmark Association, Historic RailPark & Train Museum, Unseen Bowling
Green, Rafferty’s, and the Bowling Green Trolley Tours. The all-new Lady of the
Garden tour takes you for a historic ride through time. Aboard the trolley, you wind
through the streets of downtown and visit the original Rabold home garden. An
Unseen Bowling Green cast member takes the stage as Ruth Rabold herself at the
tour’s start, telling her own story of Bowling Green way-back-when. Then the tour’s
narration ends with a guided tour of the Rabold garden led by Nicholas Rabold,
Ruth’s own grandson. These nostalgic tours thru time are only offered for a limited
time, so catch these now thru the end of the month, displaying the natural and often
overlooked beauty found in downtown Bowling Green.

Also, coming up this weekend, the Fairy Garden Tour hosted by the Bowling Green
Garden Club is on Sunday, June 4. Tour visitors can enjoy eight beautiful
gardens throughout the city for the afternoon, including the Rabold garden, ending
their day at Lost River Cave’s River Birch Room for tea and refreshments.
