40,000 lbs of food delivered to Bowling Green for non-profits
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-40,000 pounds of food made their way to Bowling Green this morning.
The Church of Latter-Day Saints organized the donation to benefit various non-profits in the Bowling Green and Morgantown area, including The Foundry and the Housing Authority of Bowling Green.
The food has a shelf life of two years, like peanut butter, waffle and pancake mix, tomato sauce, flour, beef stew and macaroni.
The end goal of this is to help teach them self-reliance…they said they want to help them, but ultimately want them to become independent in the future.
“When the doors open on that semi, nine out of ten times the first two pallets that are sitting there that they see, they’ll say that’s exactly what we’ve been praying for for three months, that’s exactly what we needed,” said Elder
The first Sunday of every month church members fast for two meals. They donate the money they would have spent on those meals to the church and that’s how they were able to donate this food.
