Jaylen Brown is underappreciated by NBA fans
Jaylen Brown has been far too often disrespected among basketball fans and media members alike. Brown is one of the best the NBA has to offer but some are too foolish not to have started learning that already. The Celtics made this man the highest-paid player in the NBA for a reason.
During the latest postseason run for the Boston Celtics Jaylen Brown in 12 playoff games to this point is averaging 24.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists a game. Ranking second in points and third on the team in rebounds during this postseason. All on a good shooting clip as well. Entering game 3 Brown is coming off a 40-point performance in a game 2 win vs the Indiana Pacers.
A topic regarding Jaylen Brown is the counting stats when comparing him to other stars around the league like Shai-Gilgeous Alexander , Luka Doncic , and Devin Booker . The main reason he didn’t make an All-NBA team is because those players have to carry more of a load for their respective teams. While Brown is in the best situation possible in Boston. How is that his fault?
Even before this season, Brown was always taking somewhat of a back seat to his longtime teammate Jayson Tatum . Some may view the duo as a 1. A and 1. B, many in the media view the Celtics as Tatum’s team or that he’s number one. Dealing with much of the criticism and the praise of that slot. A narrative that once tried to pull the duo apart has long outplayed itself. Jaylen Brown is just as important to the Celtics’ success as Jayson Tatum always has been and always will be.
Brown’s talent
For the sake of addressing that argument of Brown’s lack of recognition because of his team. Jaylen Brown has played 32 games without Jayson Tatum in his career since Tatum has been on the roster. In those 32 games, Brown averages 28.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists. In 2024, Brown’s stats fell a bit just like everyone else on the roster to benefit the team’s success instead of individual greatness. However, that would happen to anyone else in the same position if they truly had the team at the forefront. Other players have yet to or may not ever want to make that kind of sacrifice.
Jaylen Brown is objectively a fantastic basketball player, no contradicting report or preconceived bias can do anything about it. One of the premier players on the best team in the league and makes up one-half of possibly the best duo in basketball. It seems a championship is what may set the record straight. However, the same standard isn’t set for others throughout their careers to this point.
Jaylen Brown is awesome and if you do not think so you’re a part of the problem.
