Abandoned dog: Golden Retriever mix found left in crate in Mattapan, city officials say

BOSTON — City officials are trying to locate the owner of “Chelsea,” a Golden Retriever mix that was found abandoned in a crate in Mattapan.

A good Samaritan found Chelsea on Sunday behind bushes in the courtyard area of 221 River St. in Mattapan, city officials said.

The concerned citizen brought the dog to the MPSCA where she was later picked up by a Boston Animal Control Officer, officials said. The dog’s body was very thin, and the dog had a strong, foul-smelling odor.

The animal control officer brought Chelsea to Angell Animal Hospital, where she received care before being taken to the City of Boston’s animal care facility.

Chelsea received her name from the animal staff who rescued her. She is doing well and is currently under the care of the city’s veterinarian, Dr. Martha Smith Blackmore, officials said.

City officials ask anyone who recognizes this dog to contact them at: animalcontrol@boston.gov.
