Baseball season is back, a rite of spring and new beginnings. News 12 Connecticut found one family's tribute to their favorite team.
Picturesque Candlewood Lake will soon be teeming with tourists.
"It's a great place to be in the summer," said Joann Walker from Brookfield.
Along a narrow inlet in Brookfield is a replica of Fenway Park's Green Monster put together by a family of Red Sox fans.
"We looked at the wall, and it was all solid concrete. It wasn't very attractive, and I'm looking at it, and it just came to me - boy, this looks like the Green Monster the way it was set up," said Walker's husband Jeff Pike.
The painting began during the pandemic.
"We did it on weekends, days we could do it together. Everybody kind of pitched in a little bit," said Pike.
The family spared no details.
"My husband really took it from there and researched some pictures and sizing and things like that, so it was great putting up," said Walker.
Details right down to the famous scoreboard, using the official paint colors of Fenway Park.
"It came out better than we ever could have thought," said Pike.
It's even a sight for the family dog Enzo, and anyone who comes by.
"Comments are incredibly supportive. Right. Even Yankees fans come by. They come by in the boats, and they'll go, 'Listen, I'm a Yankee fan, but I love what you did,' and I said thank you," said Pike.
The family says it's an eye-catcher that is so much more than about who you root for.
"Makes people pay attention to and kind of spreads the word about baseball," said 90-year-old Bob Walker.
"You know it gets people talking to each other, and I think that's good," said his daughter Joann Walker.
A green wall that seems to be a hit with everyone.
The family is hoping to update the scoreboard the next time the Red Sox have a great season.
