BOSTON — It was a cold opening day at Fenway Park. The first sign of spring was in the Boston area but there was no spring in the air on Thursday. In fact, the Winter Classic with the Bruins back in January was warmer than today.

Right out of the gate – Red Sox fans had good energy. Fans were bundled up with scarves, and hats and some people even had blankets. People lined up for hot dogs, sausages, and anything else that would warm them up.

“It makes it feel like baseball season. What do you think of this weather? It’s a beautiful Perfect day for baseball,” said one Red Sox fan.

“I think the pitch clock is a great idea because it incentives them to pitch faster,” said one man.

This year comes with new game rules including bigger bases and a timer for players. We joked with some fans to weigh in on the new pitch clock and only gave them 15 seconds to answer.

The Red Sox had one of the worst records in baseball last year. Fans say the new season means a clean slate.

“When you hear the crack of the bat and you hear the cheers going. You know you are home, you know you are at Fenway and you know you are having a blast,” said another Red Sox fan.

The new pitcher and batter timing rules did help shorten the game which a lot of people did like today because of the temperatures.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
