A Boone resident rescued a man from his burning pickup truck Monday afternoon, the Greene County Sheriff's Office said.
Dennis Craft said he was traveling to decorate cemetery graves when he saw flames on the side of the road.
He soon learned they were coming from a 2013 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Craft had no luck getting ahold of neighbors, so he headed back to the scene of the crash.
"I drove back out the driveway and looked back towards the truck, and I could see this fella sitting in the cab of the truck just burning like a devil," he said.
Craft yelled at the driver of the truck several times, but when he didn't get a response, he knew it was time for action.
"I got him up in my car, and we backed away from it because I was afraid of the explosion," Craft said.
First responders then arrived and brought 59-year-old Kurt Burns of Churdan to safety.
The sheriff's office said Burns had a medical emergency, which then led to the crash. He was later airlifted to Des Moines, where he received medical attention.
"I'm just glad that I did come along when I did," Craft said.
