A man who died in a wrong-way crash that also injured his wife was identified this week as a Vista resident, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ricardo Becerra, 53, was a passenger in a Toyota Camry driven by his 51-year-old wife heading west on Gopher Canyon Road near Hoxie Ranch Road in Bonsall the night of March 17, county officials said in a news release.

Around 11:25 p.m., a Chevrolet Silverado heading east on the road swerved into oncoming traffic, striking the Camry head on.

Witnesses called 911, and paramedics arrived at the scene. Becerra died at the hospital.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 29-year-old woman, was also transported to a hospital, as well as Becerra's wife.

Investigators said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The pickup’s driver was released from the hospital and arrested on several allegations, including suspicion of murder, felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
