The second annual tea of the Bonners Ferry Civic League will be held at the new City Hall building at 2:30 Friday afternoon, June 8. A musical program is being arranged and it is planned to play cards after the serving of refreshments.

A deal is being negotiated today whereby Tom Nicholson is disposing of his interests in the City Meat Market business to his partner, Frank Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman will take full possession on June 1 and the business will be conducted under the firm name of Zimmerman & Sons.

A fire of unknown origin destroyed the J.M. Schnatterly estate garage with two automobiles and a quantity of tools and equipment on the Northside Monday night.

Large areas of landscaping completed on downtown portions of the Bonners Ferry bypass during the past three weeks have given that structure a new, and far more attractive appearance. Those critical of the “bypass look” have noticeably dwindled in numbers while a crew from Nelson Landscape Service, Inc. finished their project.

Valley View Principal Jim Ansley this week revealed that some 13 local women have been presented certificates of appreciation and small gifts for their efforts as Volunteer Teacher Aides in local schools the past year.

15 students have won difficult Presidential Physical Fitness Awards in testing at Valley View School.

Boundary County voters on Tuesday agreed to a property tax increase to support Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry. A levy that will generate $335,000 annually for the hospital for two years was approved by a vote of 1,141 to 913. Money from the levy will be used to replace beds, purchase new laundry equipment, buy a gastro scope, upgrade the computer system, and acquire a new operating table, anesthesia machine and a special X-ray machine.

Faulty workmanship is believed to be the reason the sidewalks cracked and buckled at the 4-year-old Bonners Ferry High School. Boundary County School Board agreed to submit claims to the general contractor’s and landscaper’s insurance companies.
