Fans of a certain Swedish furniture retailer will breathe a sigh of relief that they no longer need to drive hundreds of miles to Utah to pick up a new bed or bookcase.

Ikea officially has a presence in Idaho as of Aug. 6, with the implementation of new pick-up and cheaper delivery options, directly through the chain’s Draper, Utah, location rather than a distribution center.

“We have a large customer base that visits from Idaho, and when we talk to them, we know that they’re from there,” said Andrea Rivers, a marketing manager based at the Draper location. “The goal is to provide a really accessible customer experience for those folks ... a lot of them have to drive here and stay overnight.”

With the new services, customers can pick up their deliveries starting at $10, or have them shipped anywhere in the state starting at $19.

Pickups will take place at RXO at 11193 W. Emerald St., Suite 130, in Boise, until RXO moves locations in November. This will be the only such pick-up site in Idaho.

Rivers did not rule out the possibility that Ikea might bring stores to Idaho in the future, but there are no active plans for it at the moment.

“This is a test for us,” she said. “We just kind of want to see how this one location does.”
