'It's just that remarkable to me': Florida man thankful for treatment that stopped his hand tremor
Chances are you'll probably find James 'Marty' Muldoon on the golf course.
If he's not playing, he's giving lessons.
But as he gets older, it's getting more difficult to control his essential tremor that makes his handshake.
"That's when I decided that I couldn't even have fun playing golf, so why do it?" Muldoon said.
Hand tremor treatment: 'I get to feel better again': South Florida man reacts to scalpel-free treatment to stop hands from shaking
Back in February, we were with Muldoon at Delray Medical Center while he was preparing for treatment.
He was fitted for headgear and then wheeled to the MRI suite for incisionless focused ultrasound treatment.
Today he's back playing the game he loves.
WPBF-25 News met up with Muldoon on the Southwinds Golf Course in Boca Raton to see how he feels now that he's swinging his club again.
"Big, it's huge because it's what I do, and I love doing it," Muldoon said. "Teach and play and not feel so self-conscious when working with people and they see my handshake. It's just that remarkable to me."
He's thankful for the support from his wife, daughter, co-workers and neurosurgeon, Dr. Lloyd Zucker.
"This is why you go into medicine to contribute to people's lives," Zucker said. "I know it sounds a little bit hooky, but this is what you want to do."
Zucker performed the groundbreaking medical procedure called Incisionless Focused Ultrasound Treatment on Muldoon to stop the hand from shaking.
"We're destroying the little, tiny area within in the brain that controls the tremor," Zucker said.
According to officials, Delray Medical Center is the first hospital in the region to treat a patient with the MR-guided ultrasound by INSIGHTEC. The technology is a scalpel-free treatment for essential tremors.
