Drivers in the Boca Raton area can expect the closure of the Glades Road exit to be delayed by another week, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

The shutdown at Glades Road will now take place the weekend of March 31-April 1, due to unforeseen circumstances, the department said.

The original shutdown was supposed to take place this weekend.

“The full closure of Glades Road at I-95 this weekend has been postponed to next weekend. FDOT continues to work with the City of Boca Raton staff to monitor and manage traffic conditions at the Glades Road and I-95 Interchange while final construction activities are underway,” FDOT said in a tweet.

The new configuration, known as a “diverging diamond interchange” and the first of its kind in Palm Beach County, was opened to drivers in late January under a temporary configuration, which left some drivers frustrated about traffic tie-ups in a well-frequented part of the city. West of I-95 on Glades Road is the Town Center mall. And driving east on Glades Road lets drivers reach Florida Atlantic University, as well as the University Commons shopping center, among other destinations.

To prepare for the last of the construction, drivers can expect the Glades Road at I-95 to be completely closed from 11 p.m., Friday night, March 31, through 5 a.m., Monday morning, April 3.

The final configuration is expected to be ready by Monday morning, April 3.

Here’s a look at the expected detours.

Drivers northbound on I-95 who are exiting: Because the I-95 northbound exit ramp to Glades Road will be closed, drivers heading north on I-95 instead will be detoured to the Yamato Road exit. People driving to a destination east of I-95 would instead drive east on Yamato, then south on U.S. 1/North Federal Highway. Those heading west on Glades Road will drive west on Yamato then south on Military Trail and Butts Road to reach Glades Road on the west side of I-95.

Drivers southbound on I-95 who are exiting: Because the I-95 southbound exit ramp to Glades Road will be closed, drivers heading south on I-95 will be detoured to I-95’s Palmetto Park Road exit. Drivers who have a destination east of I-95 would drive east on Palmetto Park Road, then travel north on Federal Highway. Those who wanted to drive west on Glades Road will first drive west on Palmetto Park Road, then north on Military Trail and Butts Road.

Drivers eastbound on Glades Road: Drivers heading east on Glades Road will be detoured before I-95. They’ll drive south on Butts Road, then east on Town Center Road, then south on Military Trail, then east on Palmetto Park Road and ultimately north on Federal Highway.

Eastbound drivers on Glades who want to drive south on I-95: Would similarly drive south on Butts Road and Military Trail to reach Palmetto Park Road, then take I-95’s Palmetto Park Road entrance ramp.

Eastbound drivers on Glades Road who want to drive north on I-95: Would turn north on Butts Road, which winds east toward Military Trail, drive north on Military Trail, and east on Yamato Road to I-95.

Drivers westbound on Glades Road: Drivers heading west on Glades Road will be detoured before reaching I-95. They will drive north on Airport Road, west on Spanish River Boulevard, south on Military Trail, then onto Butts Road to ultimately reach Glades Road on the west side of I-95.

Westbound drivers on Glades Road who want to drive south or north on I-95: Would similarly drive north on Airport Road, then access I-95 via the Yamato Road entrance ramps.
