National spotlight from NCAA tournament could lead more students to FAU
FROM NEW YORK CITY. THANK YOU. THE FSU BASKETBALL TEAM IS DANCING AND THEIR SUCCESS COULD BENEFIT THE UNIVERSE CITY IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. OUR TAYLOR HERNANDEZ IS LIVE IN BOCA RATON WITH HOW THE TEAM’S TOURNAMENT VICTORIES ARE GETTING MANY PEOPLE EXCITED FOR NEXT YEAR. TAYLOR WE WELL THE FSU MOTTO THIS NCAA TOURNAMENT IS DANCING IN PARADISE THE OWLS HISTORIC RUN TO THE ELITE EIGHT, PUTTING THE TEAM ON A NATIONAL STAGE LIKE NO OTHER. AND IT MAY LEAD MORE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS TO FIND A PIECE OF PARADISE FOR THEMSELVES. THE HISTORY MADE IN THE BIG APPLE. YOU ARE LIKELY TO LEAVE AN IMPACT IN BOCA RATON. WHILE IT’S TOO EARLY TO PUT A NUMBER TO IT, FACULTY ON CAMPUS EXPECT AN INCREASE IN STUDENT APPLICATIONS. PEOPLE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO SEE FSU ON THE NATIONAL STAGE. SO YEAH, WE DO THINK THAT THIS WILL HELP STUDENTS SEE THE KIND OF ENVIRONMENT THAT THEY CAN EXPECT AS A STUDENT HERE. MORE LASSNER IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS. SHE AND THE REST OF THE FSU STAFF WELCOMED MORE THAN 1000 POTENTIAL STUDENTS TO CAMPUS TODAY, SOME OF WHICH STILL NEED TO MAKE THEIR FINAL DECISION. IT’S NOT GOING TO HURT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE GOOGLING FSU OR FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY SHOT UP TEN TIMES THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF SEARCHES SINCE THE TOURNAMENT STARTED. THE MEDIA COVERAGE AND THE FLORIDA ATLANTIC GETTING POSTED. SOCIAL RIGHT IN THE RADIO ON SPORTS NETWORK, ON NATIONAL MEDIA SYNDICATES IS WONDERFUL FOR THE UNIVERSITY, PROVING THAT EVEN IF YOU HADN’T HEARD OF FSU BEFORE, YOU CERTAINLY KNOW WHO THE OWLS ARE NOW. The national notoriety brought to Florida Atlantic University during the NCAA tournament could lead more students from across the nation to Boca Raton.Since the March Madness tournament began, the number of searches on Google for 'FAU' or 'Florida Atlantic University' is up 10 times the average number of searches.“People are really excited to see FAU on the national stage, so we do think this will help students see the kind of environment that they could expect as a student here,” Maura Flaschner said.The FAU Owls advanced to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight for the first time in program history, but the excitement surrounding the program started during a historic record season.ELITE 8 Watch Parties: List of Owl watch parties across South Florida“We’ve been selling out games; our student section is full," Flaschner said. "There is a lot of energy around campus.”While it's too early to put a number to it, FAU leaders do anticipate an increase in the number of student applications they get in the future.“Florida Atlantic is a university that is on the rise, both on the court and in the classroom," Flaschner said. "To have that kind of interest and that kind of exposure will only mean more good things to come for us.” The application period for the upcoming summer and fall semesters closes on April 1.
