National spotlight from NCAA tournament could lead more students to FAU
The national notoriety brought to Florida Atlantic University during the NCAA tournament could lead more students from across the nation to Boca Raton.
Since the March Madness tournament began, the number of searches on Google for 'FAU' or 'Florida Atlantic University' is up 10 times the average number of searches.
“People are really excited to see FAU on the national stage, so we do think this will help students see the kind of environment that they could expect as a student here,” Maura Flaschner said.
The FAU Owls advanced to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight for the first time in program history, but the excitement surrounding the program started during a historic record season.

“We’ve been selling out games; our student section is full," Flaschner said. "There is a lot of energy around campus.”
While it's too early to put a number to it, FAU leaders do anticipate an increase in the number of student applications they get in the future.
“Florida Atlantic is a university that is on the rise, both on the court and in the classroom," Flaschner said. "To have that kind of interest and that kind of exposure will only mean more good things to come for us.”
The application period for the upcoming summer and fall semesters closes on April 1.
