Indiana basketball puts together TBT team ‘Assembly Ball’ and announce first three players

After much anticipation, Indiana basketball has finally made a TBT team. The Team will be called Assembly Ball.

Former Indiana basketball forward Christian Watford made the announcement on the official Assembly Ball Twitter page. The roster will feature past members of the Indiana basketball program.

“This feels good,” Watford said. “I’ve talked about it with my colleagues and friends for so long and it’s finally — any time we can watch things come to fruition and see a team together, it’s been fun.”

A few former Indiana basketball players have played for other teams in the past, including Remy Abell and Maurice Creek, making all the way to the title in 2020.

The first three members of the roster included Troy Williams, Miller Kopp and Juwan Morgan. All forwards coming from different eras of Indiana basketball.

Kopp, who graduated from Indiana in May of 2023, averaged 8.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 35 starts during his final season at IU. The Houston native made a team-best 63 3-pointers and shot 48.1 percent (100-of-208) from the field, 44.4 percent (63-of-142) from the 3-point line, and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the free throw line.

He also is the all-time leader in conference games played in Big Ten men’s basketball history. He recently won the NBA G-League Championship with Oklahoma City Blue.

Troy Williams played three seasons for Indiana basketball under then head coach Tom Crean. As a junior in 2015–16, Williams earned third-team All-Big Ten honors averaging 13.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He went undrafted in 2016 but had NBA stints with the Grizzles, Rockets, and Knicks.

Juwan Morgan played four seasons with Indiana basketball with his first two years coming under Tom Crean and his final two season under Archie Miller. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.9 rebounds in his four years at Bloomington. He went undrafted in 2019 but had NBA stints with the Jazz, Celtics, and Raptors.

Both Williams and Morgan we a part of the 2016 Big Ten Championship team.

“We got some announcements coming, but that’s definitely a good start,” Watford added. “A solid foundation of guys who know what it’s like to play in Indiana. All those guys are looking forward to coming back and playing.”

TBT will have eight regions across the country from July 19th-July 24th and one semifinals/championship site. The Assembly Ball team playing at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19-23.

The winning team receives $1M split up between the team members, all earning a different ‘salary’ amount.
