One Class at a Time presented by Chick-fil-A of Birmingham.

For 21 years, CBS 42 has been proud to present local teachers with $1,000 grants through its One Class at a Time program, honoring the educators who work tirelessly to make a positive impact on the children of Central Alabama.

This week, CBS 42 Meteorologist Alex Puckett, the Chick-fil-A cow and representatives of Chick-fil-A of Birmingham set out to Oxmoor Valley Elementary School to honor one such educator, STEM teacher Afsaneh Beauvais.

Looking to incorporate robotics into her classes, Beauvais feels this addition will enrich her students’ learning experience.

“STEM Robotics is something I’m looking to grow at Oxmoor Valley,” said Beauvais. “STEM and technology are the way of the future, and so I want students to have that opportunity to be exposed to those things.”

Beauvais says teaching STEM not only helps prepare her students for a technology-centric future, but also teaches them vital social skills around collaboration.

“[STEM] helps [Students] build team work activities and develop problem solving skills, and just learn how to do engineering activities,” said Beauvais.

CBS 42 and Chick-fil-A of Birmingham wish Beauvais and her STEM students at Oxmoor Valley Elementary all the best!

The application to nominate a local teacher for CBS 42’s One Class at a Time grant is closed at this time, but stay on the lookout for when it opens back up later this year.
