Have you read the Lede lately?
Our daily dive into the news of the day, curated by our team of reporters, editors and producers has grown quite robust since it started in 2022. Especially since we ended print newspaper publication, every day we focus on giving you 60-80 pages of great news (including crime, business, politics, etc.) content from local reporters from the Lede, AL.com (including sports) and selected stories from the Associated Press, Alabama Daily News, Alabama Reflector, the Conversation, and other sources around the nation and the world.
Not to mention – although I’m going to – a huge section of obits, comics, puzzles, and a strong selection of commentary by our local Pulitzer Prize winners and others worth reading.
We have some of the best journalists in the country backing our daily efforts, and our team of Alabama-based journalists is getting bigger all the time. You wanted more news? You got it.

In the meantime, here are a couple of the stories we did in the past week in Birmingham:
The Lede’s Heather Gann followed up with a story she did earlier about how a local church put up a fence across a popular trail – raising the ire of hikers – but how an agreement with a nonprofit led to the fence being relocated. Gann also wrote about the likelihood of a bill seeking to change the governance of the Birmingham Water Works Board would make it out of the latest legislative session.
This week in the Lede, look for a story about the Birmingham metro’s air quality – and the latest in Gann’s ongoing series of towing horror stories from downtown.
