BIRMINGHAM - Led by running back Jermaine Brown Jr. and cornerback Mac McWilliams as First Team selections, Athlon Sports has named eight UAB football players to its American Athletic All-Conference Preseason Teams.
 
Along with Brown Jr. and McWilliams, center Brady Wilson and defensive tackle Fish McWilliams were second team selections, wide receiver Tejhaun Palmer and safety Keondre Swoopes were third team members and defensive lineman Michael Fairbanks II and placekicker Matt Quinn were fourth team members.
 
Brown enters his final year as a Blazer with 2,275 career rushing yards (8th all-time) and 3,476 all-purpose yards (7th all-time). He is coming off his best season yet with 948 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 2022 as he contributed to the UAB's record-setting backfield last season.
 
McWilliams started the first seven games of last year before suffering a season-ending injury and was one of the top shutdown corners in Conference USA prior to the injury. In seven games, he had 19 tackles, 10 pass breakups and an interception which he returned 78 yards for a touchdown.
 
On second team, Wilson started seven games last year on the offensive line with three at center and four as an extra lineman in UAB's jumbo package. Fish McWilliams was one of the top interior linemen in the league last season and is poised for major accolades this year.
 
Under the direction of first year head coach Trent Dilfer, the Blazers are less than 100 days away from opening the 2023 season on Aug. 31 against North Carolina A&T at Protective Stadium.
 
UAB's home schedule also includes Louisiana (Sept. 16), USF (Oct. 7), Memphis (Oct. 21) Florida Atlantic (Nov. 4) and Temple (Nov. 18). UAB's away schedule is highlighting by a Week 4 matchup against two-time defending National Champion Gregoria and a contest the following week at reigning Cotton Bowl Champion Tulane.
