Two men were shot, including one who suffered life-threatening injuries after gunfire rang out following an argument during a dice game Friday night in east Birmingham, police said.

East Precinct officers were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. Friday to the 7200 block of Paris Ave. in the Brown Springs community on a report of multiple ShotSpotter alerts, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Officers at the scene found multiple shell casings and a vehicle shot into but did not observe any victims, Fitzgerald said.

Police were later notified that one gunshot victim was at UAB Hospital while the second man was found in the 1700 block of 5th Avenue North suffering from a gunshot wound. The second victim was later taken to UAB.

The victim who was originally at the hospital has a non-life-threatening injury, Fitzgerald said, while the second victim has a life-threatening wounds.

According to the preliminary investigation, “we believe that some sort of argument took place during a dice game,” Fitzgerald said.

Police found dice in the middle of the street, he said.

No suspects were in custody as of 10 p.m. Friday.
