Man shot to death on porch of Inglenook house identified as Birmingham 23-year-old

Authorities have released the name of a man fatally shot in Birmingham’s Inglenook community.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Deunte Jurrell Winston. He was 23.

The shooting happened about 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the 4300 block of 44th Avenue North in Inglenook.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said officers arrived in the neighborhood and found Winston unresponsive on a front porch. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:21 a.m.

An arrest has not yet been announced, but authorities said the two men knew each other and the dispute was personal in nature.

Watson is Birmingham’s 51st homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and two others have been ruled justifiable.

In all of Jefferson County this year, there have been 63 homicides, including the 51 in Birmingham.
