BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Two Birmingham police officers were injured in an overnight crash Thursday.

According to Birmingham Police, officers and medical personnel were dispatched to a crash involving a police and civilian vehicle that happened around 3:49 a.m. on I-20/59 SB near the 19th Street exit.

They arrived on the scene and found a collision between a Ford F-150 and a BPD Ford Explorer.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the driver of the Ford F-150 and two BPD officers to a local area hospital.

The civilian driver and one of the BPD officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The second officer received serious injuries, but police say all three are in stable condition.

BPD stated the crash is believed to be accidental, as the two officers were seated in their patrol car to block traffic from a separate wreck prior to this incident.
