BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) -Happy Saturday! Low temperatures will range from the low 50s for northwest central Alabama counties and upper 50s and low 60s for south-central counties. I expect to see multiple rounds of storms early Sunday morning through Sunday night as the Next Big Thing. Threats include large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado cannot be ruled out.

Sunday morning storms: Most of Central Alabama is under a marginal risk for storms on Sunday morning. This is a threat level 1 of 5, including quarter size hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph. South central Alabama counties are in a slight risk zone threat level 2 of 5, including golf ball size hail, damaging winds up to 60 mph and a tornado.

Sunday night storms: With the heating of the day, the risk of storms becomes more likely. South Sumter, Greene, and Hale counties are under an enhanced risk of severe storms (threat level 3 of 5), including damaging winds, tornadoes, and golf ball sized hail. The time frame permitting the greatest chance for these storms is 4 PM to 4 AM on Sunday. Greene, Hale, Sumter counties and south Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, most of Tallapoosa, south Talladega, south Clay, and Randolph counties are under a slight risk (threat level 2 of 5) from 4 PM to 4 AM. We ask that everyone once again charges all devices and electronics and have a severe weather plan in place. We will see heavy rainfall on Sunday. I think the greatest chance for severe weather is between I-20 and I-85. The main threats will probably be the winds, flash flooding, large hail, but a tornado cannot be ruled out.

High temperatures Sunday could vary but we will probably see the warmest daytime highs for south-central Alabama counties in the low to mid-80s. Northern central counties will probably reach temperatures in the upper 70s.

More Active Weather: We have definitely hit that spring season weather. Showers are possible Monday night into Tuesday. There is also a chance for storms on Friday and Saturday of next week. Central Alabama will probably end up with an additional 1-2 inches of rainfall between now and next Tuesday. We could see a surge of cooler air move into Central Alabama by the middle of next week, resulting in low temperatures in the 40s Wednesday morning and highs in the upper 60s. Next Wednesday is looking sunny and dry. Long-range models hint we could see another stretch of warm and unsettled weather by the end of next week. Next Friday into Saturday could end up stormy across the Southeast. I expect this active weather pattern as we finish our March and move into April.
