BPD investigating domestic shooting on 1st Avenue N

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred March 20 in the 300 block of 1st Avenue North.

The Jefferson county Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 29-year-old James Lee Washington.

A call came in around 11:30 a.m. about a person shot at an apartment complex in Birmingham.

Officers arrived on scene and found Washington suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he died.

The investigation has revealed there was a physical altercation between Washington and another adult male. Police say the shooting is domestic in nature.

According to authorities, the fight started inside an apartment and was taken outside, where Washington was shot.

There are no suspects in custody. However, police think they know who the suspect is and believe it was another person living in the apartment.
