Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Breanna Williams of
Skyview (Billings) is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Montana High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2 junior forward helped the Falcons go 19-5 and take third place at the Class AA state tournament.
For the season, Williams averaged 22.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. In the state semifinals, she scored 25 points in a losing effort.
A year ago as a sophomore, Williams averaged nearly 15 points and 10 rebounds as Skyview captured a state title.
Brooke Berry of Skyview was the 2021-22 MaxPreps Montana Player of the Year. Now a freshman at Montana State, Berry averaged 15.8 points and 3.6 assists per game for the Falcons.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in April.
