Gasoline prices continue upward march in VA and TN

According to the latest GasBuddy survey of stations in Virginia, The average gasoline prices in Virginia have risen 10.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.95/g. Prices in Virginia are 15.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 93.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The cheapest station in Virginia was found to be priced at $3.59/g, while the most expensive was $5.79/g. The national average price of gasoline has risen 2.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.09/g. Gasoline prices are also rising in Tennessee with drivers paying an average of $3.79/g, which is up over 13 cents from last week.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WBBJ) - Tennessee gas prices rose 13 cents over the past week, on average. Drivers paid $3.81 per gallon on Labor Day, the highest on record for the holiday. The state average now stands at $3.80 per gallon, up 23 cents from a month ago and 96 cents from a year ago.

TDOT to halt all lane closures for the holiday

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will halt all lane closure activity on interstates and state routes for the Labor Day holiday travel period. Construction crews stopped all lane-closure activities at noon on Friday, Sept. 4, and resume at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8. This will provide maximum roadway capacity for motorists traveling during the Labor Day holiday. “The Labor Day holiday is always a busy travel time,” said TDOT Commissioner Will Reid, P.E. “We want to ensure that the thousands of travelers using Tennessee’s roadways during this period arrive at their destinations quickly and safely without being impeded by road construction delays. We also want to ensure the safety of our HELP Truck drivers who will be working in urban and rural areas. Please pay attention, move over, and slow down for all first responders. It’s the law!” While lane closure activity will be stopped, workers will still be on-site in many construction zones, and drivers are urged to obey posted speed limits. Drivers convicted of speeding in work zones where workers are present face a fine of $250 to $500, plus court fees and possibly increased insurance premiums.
