Staff Report

Wednesday, June 7th, 2023

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) Quick Response Team will start a project on State Route 87 at the I -16 westbound intersection. The SR 87 southbound approach will be coverted to two dedicated right turn lanes to create a multi-lane right turn, as well a separate through lane. The I-16 westbound exit ramp will also be widened to accommodate a dedicated left and right turn lanes. The existing traffic signal will be modified to match the new traffic flow.

The second project is located on State Route 87 at the I-16 eastbound exit ramp and will install a new queue loop detector further up the I-16 exit ramp and will convert the inside through lane on SR 87 into a dedicated left turn lane for the I-16 eastbound entrance ramp. The improvement will also convert Confederate Way into a right-in right-out by closing the median opening opposite it.

Lane closures are to be expected. They have 90 days to complete the project.
