Royal students headed to National History Day contest
ROYAL CITY — Six students will represent Royal schools at the National History Day competition in Washington D.C. next month. The six were among 33 students who participated in the state competition held in Kirkland on April 27, said Royal Middle School social studies teacher Emily Ovenell, who coordinated the students’ entries. The students who placed in the top two at state were eligible for nationals, she said.

The Quincy Valley Historical Society & Museum is eyeing summer for the release of its newest installment in the “Children of the Quincy Valley” series. The series began as a way to memorialize the history of Quincy Valley and educate today’s youth about the lives of children who lived it, according to Harriet Weber, QVHSM’s director of operations.

Postseason competition arrives for track and field
After a week off from competition, the Quincy track and field team hopes to send some of its athletes to the state meet in Yakima as the regular season wanes. The Jackrabbits will host the Caribou Trail League Championship Meet at Quincy High School Stadium on May 8. Not a postseason qualifier, the contest marks the only league meet for the CTL. Individually, it determines first team all-league, second team all-league and honorable mentions. The meet will also decide the league champions for both the boys and girls teams.
