Capital murder charge dismissed against 21-year-old in deadly shooting at Bessemer convenience store

A 20-year-old was shot to death April 11, 2023 in the 2900 block of Dartmouth Avenue in Bessemer.

A capital murder charge against one of two suspects in the April shooting death of a man at a Bessemer convenience store has been dismissed.

Corey Little, 21, was charged with capital murder, attempted murder and robbery in the April 11 slaying of Tyler D’King Andrews, 20.

Also charged with the same crimes is 21-year-old Michael Earl Hill Jr.

Both men went before Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff Judge David Carpenter on May 22 for a preliminary hearing.

After hearing the evidence, court records show, the judge ruled there was no probable cause to move forward with the charges against Little. He was released from the Jefferson County Jail later that same day.

Little was represented by attorney Hiram Griffin Jr.

Carpenter ruled there was enough evidence against Hill to send his case to a grand jury for indictment consideration. He remains held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

The shooting happened at 8:43 p.m. that Tuesday at Bessemer Market in the 2900 block of Dartmouth Avenue. Andrews was rushed to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police at the time the arrests were announced said that Hill, Little and Andrews were together that night. There was an attempt to rob another man of his car, and Andrews was shot in the process.

The intended robbery victim was not injured.
