BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) - Over 30 vehicles were broken into between the hours of midnight and 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to Bessemer Police Lt. Christian Clemons.

Police say the break-ins took place in two different lots. One location was at the FedEx Distribution Center on Lakeshore Parkway and the second location was at the Amazon Distribution site on Powder Plant Road. Several cars were unlocked and the majority of them had their windows broken by the suspect(s).

According to police, the stolen items ranged from cash, debit/credit cards, handbags, purses, to firearms, cell phones and tablets.

Lt. Clemons says much of the time, thieves are stealing from cars where they can see the valuables so it’s best to bring all of yours inside or at the very least, keep them out of sight.

“If a thief cannot see anything worth breaking into your car, they’re going to go to the next car that has a valuable in it for them to steal,” said Lt. Clemons. “So keeping that out of sight and hidden, maybe even lock content like a console or glove compartment will help.”

He adds it’s really important that if you see something illegal happening, like a car break-in, you should say something and call police immediately.

A light color Dodge Challenger is believed to be the suspect’s vehicle.
