A woman is now being charged for possibly causing the death of a dog and her litter of puppies, police say.
According to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) in Harrisburg, 23-year-old Bryanna Wagner did not find a dog named Sadie on the side of a Berks County road in early May.
Instead, officials are now saying that Wagner had Sadie in her care and her actions lead to the dog and her puppies' deaths.
Sadie's puppies were also found dead in a grocery bag.
Sadie's story was initially brought to the public's attention after an organization in Lancaster County that was trying to save her, Zoe's House Rescue, posted about the situation.
After doing all they could, staff had no choice but to "make the heartbreaking decision to set Sadie free" on May 11.
The organization, now outraged after discovering the news of Wagner's arrest:
We are sad and disgusted that the woman that "found " Sadie was responsible for this. She is currently being held on 75k bail and we will be attending her hearing. We are pushing for the ultimate punishment. Thank you to all of you that helped us get justice. We will have an official statement later.
That statement can be found here.
Sadie's death was caused by a devastating uterine infection after giving birth to her puppies.
This infection caused her body to contract sepsis, which resulted in Sadie dying.
Now, authorities say Wagner was charged on Thursday for aggravated cruelty to animals, neglect of animals, falsely reporting to law enforcement, and tampering with evidence.
She is currently being held at the Berks County Prison.
