Brookfield Zoo's Holiday Magic Returns With 3.5 Million Lights for 45th Year

More than 3.5 million lights are set to blanket Brookfield Zoo Chicago starting Nov. 21, as the beloved Holiday Magic festival returns for its 45th year and will run on select nights through Jan. 3, 2027. The zoo says this year's run stretches an extended 32 nights, with three additional dates added to the calendar beyond the usual schedule.

Chicago Woman Gets 60 Days in Jail Over Fake Rochelle Shooting Report

A 57-year-old Chicago woman has been sentenced to 60 days in jail, 12 months of probation and 60 hours of public service after a jury found she falsely claimed to one Ogle County dispatcher that she had witnessed a shooting near a Rochelle rodeo site and asked another whether police would investigate if she said she had. Jodie Wiederkehr was also sentenced to 10 days in jail for misdemeanor harassment by telephone, a term that will run alongside her other jail time.
