BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Two Queens men were arrested Wednesday after officers found 120 pounds of weed in their car during a traffic stop in North Jersey, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Xian Fang Mei, 62, and Xian Wei Tang, 39, were stopped in Bergen County by Narcotic Task Force officers from the prosecutor’s office.
Once the vehicle was stopped, the officers discovered the cannabis in the vehicle and charged Mei and Tang with first-degree possession with intent to distribute marijuana over 25 pounds, the prosecutor's office told NJ.com.
It wasn't immediately clear in what town the bust was made.
In February 2021, Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation making it legal for anyone 21 and older to possess up to six ounces of weed. In April 2022, licensed dispensaries across the state were allowed to begin selling recreational cannabis.
The amount the men allegedly had was equivalent to 1,920 ounces.
They were both released pending a first appearance in county court, according to the report.
