'It's like being home.' MS restaurant makes meals from scratch, friends over 100 years
A Mississippi Delta restaurant's doors first opened in 1909, making it one of the oldest restaurants in the state . It's famous for its homestyle cooking and a feeling of home that has kept customers coming back for generations. "My family's owned it for 90 years," said Evelyn Brown, owner of Jim's Cafe in Greenville. "My family bought it in 1934. "Some (customers) have been coming for 40, 50 years — maybe longer. I've had some that said their granddaddy came here. I've had some that say they came when they were little boys and these are 80-year-old men. There was a barber shop next door and the boys would get their hair cut and their daddies or granddaddies would bring them over here to eat." For many customers, not much has changed since they first walked in the door. The brick building has a familiar neon sign on the front and the inside is a reminder of another time. "It's pretty much like it was in the '60s," Brown said. "The jukebox is still here, but it doesn't work." Jim's Cafe holds decades of memories Records in the juke box include songs such as "Moody Blue" by Elvis Presley,
