Bend police, CERT Team block in parked RV, arrest suspect in recent stabbing during a fight in NE Bend

Bend Police Dept.

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Bend Police and two Bearcat armored vehicles from the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team blocked in an RV parked on Northeast Second Street Monday afternoon and arrested a 32-year-old man who was inside on assault and other charges in a recent stabbing in the area.

Officers investigating the Oct. 20 crime identified the man as the suspect and determined Monday he was in a motor home parked in the 700 block of Second Street, police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.

“Because of the nature of the crime and (his) criminal history,” the CERT Team was activated to assist in the arrest, which happened shortly before 2 p.m., Miller said.

He was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.

The suspect was being questioned and had not yet been booked into the jail by late Monday afternoon.

Court records show he pleaded no contest earlier this month to a fourth-degree assault charge and charges of second-degree disorderly conduct and harassment were dismissed. He was sentenced Oct. 13 to 20 days in jail, with credit for time served, and three years’ probation, including a substance abuse evaluation.

Officers responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 to the 600 block of NE Second Street on a report of a man covered in blood, reporting he’d been stabbed, Miller said a week ago.

Officers arrived to find a 45-year-old man with a laceration to his left side and other injuries to his face, Miller said. The victim said the incident occurred in the 200 block of NE Franklin Avenue, “and that he did not know the person who stabbed him with a four-inch blade,” she said.

Officers provided medical aid at the scene and Bend Fire medics took the victim to St. Charles Bend with what Miller described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses and video surveillance indicated there was a fight between the victim and two men before the stabbing.
