    Beloit Turner responds to early deficit to beat Clinton; Brodhead/Juda sweeps doubleheader in Walworth vs. Big Foot

    Visiting Clinton scored first, but Beloit Turner answered quickly with a three-run second inning and went on to post an 8-3 victory in Rock Valley Conference baseball Wednesday.

    The game at the Stateline Youth Sports Complex was a makeup from a Tuesday rainout. The teams are scheduled to square off in Clinton on Thursday.

    The Cougars’ Logan Hendricks blasted a solo home run off Turner starter Andy Buckley in the first inning, but the right-hander was given a quick reprieve when his teammates put up three runs in the second. Cesar Alfaro knocked in one run with a fielder’s choice and Brody Berg drove in two with a double.

    Turner tacked on a run in the fourth inning. Jayden Piccione’s single knocked in Brayden Ward, who had reached on an error.

    Clinton picked up a run off Buckley in the fifth, but Turner struck for four in the bottom of the inning for a commanding 8-2 lead. The big hits were a two-run homer by Alfaro, an RBI double by Ethan Halon and an RBI single by Noah Pfundheller.

    Alfaro was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Halon was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Fernando Tillery was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

    Winning pitcher Buckley allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. Alfaro pitched the seventh, allowing one hit and one run.

    Tim Arnold took the loss, allowing eight hits and eight runs (four earned) in 4 2/3 innings. He fanned six. Gavin Wesling came on in relief and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

    Hendricks and Collin Gill each had two hits for the Cougars.

    Brodhead/Juda 4-5, Walworth Big Foot 0-3 — Kohen Sawle worked around five hits and three walks to throw seven scoreless innings and strike out six while the Cardinals used a three-run fourth to help take down the hosting Chiefs 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

    Clayton Eliott put Brodhead/Juda (4-3, 3-0) up 1-0 in the third with his RBI single while one-run singles from Evan Senobe and David Masloske in the fourth, combined with Ryan Searls’ bringing a runner home on a double play, accounts for all the scoring.

    Brady Malkow had two of the Cardinals’ seven hits while Big Foot (3-5, 1-5) had five players smack five singles.

    Connor Weeks started for the Chiefs and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. Skylar Jacobs threw a clean seventh.

    In the second game of the twinbill, the Cardinals scored single runs in each of the first five innings for a 5-3 victory.

    Senobe went 2 for 2, walked two other times and scored three of his team’s runs. Masloske had two RBI.
