The university on Tuesday announced the passing of sophomore Colton Kaase.  Kaase was a member of CSU’s track and field team, participating in sprints and hurdles.

In a statement from CSU Athletic Director Joe Parker, he said Kaase “represented Colorado State, his program, his teammates, and his community with pride and distinction.”

Kaase competed in football, baseball and track at Bellville High School.  In his senior year, he was a member of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished second place at state and set a new school record, while finishing sixth as an individual in the 300 meter hurdles.  He received the school’s most valuable sprinter award and was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Academic All-State Team.  He was also involved in Bellville FFA.

According to The Rocky Mountain Collegian, CSU’s student newspaper, Kaase’s freshman year included third place finishes in the men’s 400 meter at the Air Force Peak Invitational and in the men’s 400 meter hurdles at the Tom Benich Invite.

Kaase is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Juli, and sisters Amanda and Sarah.

The cause of death has not been announced.  Memorial services are pending.
