State patrol investigating after Uber passenger injured in drive-by shooting on SR 520 near Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol is investigating an early morning drive-by shooting that left one man injured near Bellevue on Sunday.

At about 12:45 a.m., WSP communications received a 911 call from an Uber driver after his passenger sustained a gunshot wound while traveling eastbound on State Route 520.

According to WSP, the Uber driver was taking the passenger from Seattle to Bellevue.

He was approaching Bellevue Way when an unknown vehicle pulled up alongside his car. A person inside the vehicle fired a single shot, which penetrated the left rear door of the car and struck his passenger sitting in the back seat.

The Uber passenger was transported to Overlake Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

WSP does not have an update on his condition at this time.
